The work done at the Street and Park Planning Department in Pori affects the city’s everyday life in many ways. The department carries out several tasks from developing transport networks to planning street lighting and greenspaces. Street planning work is more efficient now as street costs are calculated in Rapal’s cost management software Fore.
Design Engineer Irma Lehto creates street plans according to the city’s investment program and orders construction work from the Municipal Engineering Department. – Cost calculation of street plans is now easier than before, thanks to Fore. As planning is easier, plans can be more quickly delivered to the Municipal Engineering for construction, tells Lehto.
Pori started using Fore in 2012, at the same time as Lehto started working for the city. Fore was a familiar software for Lehto from her earlier work in the infrastructure industry.
Lehto estimates that before the implementation of Fore, cost calculation took an excessive amount of time from the total planning time. – Material and work prices had to be searched from many different sources and prices had to be formulated case-by-case. Now we can trust the prices in the software and easily update cost calculations according to changes made in the planning phase. We can also add our own fixed prices to Fore. My only improvement suggestion is that there could be more follow-up functionalities to compare estimates to actual costs, suggests Lehto.
Lehto works as a Fore main user and teaches her colleagues the use of Fore. – New users learn quickly how to use Fore, and the city benefits as more and more employees can utilize the software in their work. The biggest benefit of Fore is the time it saves and the possibilities it gives us to concentrate better on our work, sums Lehto.
